This school year, we have agreed upon a common purpose to guide us in meeting the needs of our grades 6-8 students in light of our AIS whole school mission and that of the International Baccalaureate Organization. We are committed to a caring and respectful learning environment that offers engaging and meaningful educational experiences preparing our students for the demands of the 21st century.
Our Purpose:
To encourage our students to embrace the IB Learner Profile, to provide students with the key skills to question, and to develop as global citizens in order to solve problems and grow as adolescents.
Our middle school is designed to meet the developmental needs of young adolescents and to provide students with safe and secure bridges from Elementary School to High School. We work with the energy, enthusiasm and natural curiosity of emerging adolescents while, at the same time, providing the guidance and structure they need to make these transitions as successful as possible.
To do so, we have set two goals for this school year that will help us maintain a focus on the continuous improvement of our middle school and on student academic growth and achievement.
Goal #1: To communicate our middle school philosophy and purpose to the entire school community.
Goal #2: To continually improve student achievement.
To meet these goals, we believe strongly in open and timely communication with parents; this is essential in helping our students succeed. To this end we communicate regularly by phone, via email, and also use the following websites in order to provide information regarding student work expectations, links to student agenda/handbook and parent MYP handbook, upcoming middle school events and activities, and summative assessments.

In addition to these communication tools, we host Principal/Parent and MYP Teas to provide parents the opportunity to share in their child’s experience, invite parents to informative “Three-Way” and “Student-led” conferences, and encourage participation in arts and sporting events. We see parents as partners in the education of our students and welcome participation and feedback.
