Winners of NESA

From thirteen NESA schools submitting approximately 400 projects, AIS Kuwait took overall first place, first place in the category of Biology, Chemistry and Research; 2nd place in Chemistry and had 5 teams in the top 20!

Tisya Goel and Rushmeet K. Singh studied the effect of the mass of activated carbon on the concentration of impurities (iodine and chlorine) in water for their Grade 8 NESA Science Fair project. This research can help determine the best way to produce pure water from contaminated sources. Top-notch experimental design frustratingly did not yield the expected results so they inquired further through research and additional experimentation to explain their original data. Their persistence, hard work and thinking paid off as they won first place in the Champion Round of the top five NESA teams. They were also awarded first place overall, Best Researched Project and first in the category of Chemistry. Congratulations!

Razan Al Awadhi and Shaikha Boodai (7th place overall and 1st place in Biology) studied the decomposition rates of different fruits and vegetables within soil.
Amara Qabazard (6th place overall and 2nd place in Chemistry) studied the effect of temperature on the denaturation of egg white protein.
Mark Akl and Ralph Zein (9th place overall) studied the effect of wind speed on rate of cooling of a body of water covered with different pollutants.
Loulwa Al Sabah and Tala Yehia (16th place overall) studied the effect of dust on plant leaves on the rate of photosynthesis.

Thank you middle school science teachers, Wayne Isaac and Sezin Karacal. Congratulations to all!
